Fed: Danish ship to arrive at Christmas Islands with supplies

A Danish ship will deliver supplies to Christmas Island despite a diplomatic stand-off
that's left a Norwegian freighter drifting off the island's coast.

The Thor Kirston, which is about one fifth the size of the Norwegian freighter Tampa,
is expected to arrive tomorrow.

The ship, loaded with supplies of fresh food and building material, has been chartered
by the Perth-based Cocos Island Traders.

It set sail from Fremantle before the Tampa stalemate began on Monday.

The Tampa is currently drifting about four nautical miles offshore, carrying more than
450 asylum seekers rescued from a distressed Indonesian ferry on Sunday.

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD on Monday denied the freighter access to Australian waters.

Norway's Ambassador to Australia OVE THORSHEIM arrived on the island last night and
plans to visit the captain and his crew today.
