DEAR HELOISE: Ihave a wonderful GIFT-GIVING IDEA for anyone visiting a new mother at home or in the hospital.
I buy a gift bag, or better yet a new purse, and fill it with a good paperback, a magazine, a new brush and clips, perfume samples, nail polish/files, skin cleanser/mask, makeup and lip gloss. I include a gift certificate for her favorite clothing store or to get her hair done, and any other luxury items she might like in order to help feel and look her best during her hospital stay and her first month as a new mom.
