Myanmar s internet service link fails for week

YANGON, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's normal internet service linkhas failed for over a week since last Monday, troubling subscribersnationwide, especially in the Yangon commercial city.

Myanmar telecommunication authorities have not yet madeclarification over the failure and the date of resumption of theservice.

Due to the interruption of the internet link, local and foreignwebsites and e-mails could not be opened, reflected the public.

"Services dealing with heathcare, hotel, airline and media aswell as IT companies and private hospitals using internet aremostly being affected, " the local Weekly Eleven News reportedMonday.

So many internet cafes closed down their businesses in the city.

Previously, the Myanmar Teleport used to inform users in thecountry online about such internet abnormality and make apology.

The Myanmar Teleport has been providing the internet service linkby landline fiber link -- SEA-ME-WE3, which is Myanmar's keyinternational link of Asia-Europe.

There are so far three cross-border fiber optic links establishedover the past few years which are Myanmar-China's, Myanmar-Thai'sand Myanmar-India's to boost information link between Myanmar andthe three neighbors.

Meanwhile, a first Myanmar-language national web portal and aninternet exchange were formally launched in the Yatanarpon cybercity in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay region on Oct. 17.
